This book is still a favorite for many of his fans but most of all, it’s important that the book is something you read and take to heart. If you started your own business, a home business or otherwise, it’s important that you understand people and how to build valuable relationships.
Zig Ziglar has always been highly regarded for his work with people, how to treat them, and how to get them to buy from you! So, what does it take for you to become successful? There are some simple steps that you can take to achieve success in dealing with people and getting them to come around to your way of thinking. So, what will bring you the success you are looking for?
I just wanted to touch on these 5 steps to successful selling, and how you can implement them no matter what business you are in to create the life you want, and to have the success you want in business!

While you may think you need a special degree or special super powers to sell things, you don’t. In fact, some of the best salespeople I know don’t appear to be salespeople at all. They are more easy going than I would expect, and they don’t seem to TRY so hard to get me to listen to them. It just comes naturally and they speak in a way that draws me to them. However, this isn’t even the first step.
Know your target market. If you haven’t yet identified who you want to buy from you or join you in your business, then you need to rewind. Who is it that is your ideal customer? Who do you want to connect with?
- Those that focus on relationships?
- Those that buy on impulse?
- Those that are buyers once a year?
- Those that are seeking the opportunity to build their own business?
These are the types of buyers you want to consider, and then once you know who they are, you target them!
Prospecting in Your Target Market. Once you have identified who your target market is, you should begin to prospect and target them. This means that you prospect accordingly with marketing techniques and appointment setting.
Remember, getting leads is the lifeblood of your business, so without prospects you have nothing. If you want to grow your business faster and with fewer expenses then it’s wise to create an online presence. This means that you need to take care with your website, blog, and social media presence and marketing. The more places people can find you, the better your chances are of getting the prospects you want!

Presentation. It has been said that presentation is everything, and so it is. The way you present something to someone is in fact the way that they perceive it. So, if you are positive, clear, and concise then you are more likely to get others to listen to you and respect you. Make sense?
Closing the sale! If you like movies about business that are gritty and influential, you can probably recall the Glengarry Glen Ross movie, right? In a high pressure sales environment there is way too much focus on closing the deal. However, it’s important that you do make sales otherwise you’ll never make any money. However, it’s all about applying the points above, then keep in mind that you MUST absolutely focus on building those relationships.
Get to know people and let them get to know you too! Be transparent, and never hide information or facts.
Followup and follow through. If you have everything else but you don’t have followup and follow through you could put your business in a world of trouble. As one of the 5 steps to successful selling, it’s wise to make sure that everyone gets everything that they need from you. If you were selling home, wouldn’t you want to make sure that they got everything they needed including all of the important documents?
Following up is important no matter who you are dealing with, and whether the sale is small or large, it makes no difference. Treat all people with the same care, and you’ll get more referrals than you could ever imagine.
